Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT)

The Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) is prepared by the U.S. Employment Service, Employment and Training Administration (ETA), U.S. Department of Labor. The latest version of the DOT is the Revised Fourth Edition (1991). It is available from the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office.

The Occupational Information Network (O*NET), which defines and describes occupations, is an electronic successor to the DOT. The current O*NET database of occupational information is based largely on data supplied by occupational analysts using sources such as the DOT. During the next phase of development, the O*NET project will revise the existing database with new data collected directly from individual workers. For more information, go to http://www.doleta.gov/programs/onet.
